Women’s Therapy Project:
Weekly Therapy Group
One of the best ways to expedite your therapeutic process is to experiment with new behaviors in a group therapy process in tandem with your individual work. Thus, women already engaged in weekly individual counseling at Seattle Therapy Alliance may be eligible to participate in a weekly therapy group. Talk to your therapist if you are interested in this service.
STA presents a WOMEN’S PROCESS GROUP
Monday evenings, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
In this all-women’s group, members present with different types of issues, including but not limited to: stress, relationship problems, pregnancy, miscarriage, abortion, parenting, depression, anxiety, addiction, past trauma, and issues related to eating. The two therapists who facilitate the group are trained in keeping the group safe and supportive, while providing healthy challenges to the participants.
WHY GROUP THERAPY? The challenges and difficulties that participants bring to the group are generally re-enacted with fellow members. In the safe environment of the group, members offer comfort, support, and alternative ways of thinking and behaving, as well as learn new ways of relating to and interacting with others.
Group therapy is effective in that participants learn they are not alone, and gain insight and encouragement from one another. Because all the women are present to learn and practices ways in which they wish to change, they can offer one another more support and grace than is possible in other settings.
BENEFITS OF GROUP THERAPY
- Greater intimacy in relationships
- Faster recovery from addiction
- Reduced feelings of loneliness
- Increased sense of trust
- Higher self-esteem
- Improved boundaries
